The Past Twelve Months of Service Numbers
I am mentally wired to be a fixer, and I've been on my own since I was 18. As a result, I have always believed if you want something done right, do it yourself. Thus, I have always thought that helping meant fixing what was broken.

In a difficult economic time forty years ago, an attentive clerk in Spring Lake noticed that the toilet paper she placed in her office’s restrooms was disappearing. Clients of the office were taking it because they were having difficulty providing for their own families.
One of the major challenges of 2023 is homelessness. We’d love to share how Love in Action is combatting this problem in our community. Our goal is to provide each person with a place of compassionate care in the same way Jesus cares for each of us.
Each year Love in Action donors make a difference in a variety of ways. Some give clothing, furniture or other household goods. Others provide food keeping the pantries well-stocked with needed food resources. Many give financially, using the Love in Action website or sending a check to 326 N Ferry St. Combatting the challenges of poverty in our area requires all varieties of giving.
This is the year! For all of Love in Action’s history we’ve worked with a single, practical model for how to help people. It looks a bit like this…
Leslie came to Love in Action after a history of severe substance abuse, addiction and multiple overdoses. After graduating from Hope House, LIA’s women and children’s transitional housing shelter, Leslie wrote a note to the Hope House community sharing her thanks and her story
Despite a series of health issues Pete had been suffering with, he was managing and remaining strong. But his latest health diagnosis came as a surprise – cancer. His particular cancer is believed to have been caused by the work to which he had devoted 35 years of his life. Still, being an independent person of strong spirit, he soldiered on.
At Love in Action the mission truly is simple. Occasionally it can sound complicated with dozens of ministries and partners all working together to meet needs. And often individual lives are complicated. Yet our true mission is simply to build up, encourage, and restore what is broken. As St. Paul once put it, we seek to encourage each other and build each other up. For each of us there are places of brokenness. LIA is a community of people who come around each other with the love of Jesus.
We believe in the potential of each individual and seek to help people by not only meeting their needs but helping them discover their God-given gifts and abilities. Our mission is transforming lives by empowering people to thrive.
