Tammy’s story is unforgettable. She came to us at a moment when her life had become unsustainable. Much of her situation was beyond her control. Physically, spiritually and financially, harm had occurred. The recovery would require time. She was looking for help to pay her rent. As our team worked to understand her situation, we realized that short-term financial assistance would merely be pushing a set of problems forward in time. At some point, maybe merely months down the road, the financial challenges were going to be too much. Her life was likely to be thrown into crisis yet again. Rather than empowering, what looked like help would cause hurt.
Tammy was able to join Hope House instead. She was surrounded by others who cared for her and supported her. Transformation requires community; none of us can succeed alone. As Tammy connected with the supportive community at Hope House, it quickly became apparent that she was both helpful to others and very much blessed by the experience herself.
Today Tammy has moved from Hope House into her own apartment. The relationships formed during this time continue and community is an important piece of her story. She is a key component in others’ thriving.
Our mission at Love in Action is to work daily towards three crucial values… transformation, empowerment and thriving. Transformation simply means all of us can improve. No one is perfect and when we come together, whether as volunteers, residents or any other way, our lives can be changed. Empowerment means we look for the next step forward in each situation for every person, seeking to make the hard choices that build towards long-term good. Thriving is the result when we all work to create a culture of compassion.
A gift at this last season of our year is literally an investment in lives transformed, empowered choices and a community that is thriving. We pray God’s blessing for you in the coming Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, and we thank you for caring enough to give.
