“I heard about Love in Action and always meant to call to ask about volunteer opportunities. One day I heard it in my heart, ‘don’t forget to call Love in Action,’ and I’ve been here since.” That was ten years ago now, as Mary Turner began volunteering after retiring from a career in teaching.
Mary started at the Ministry Center as a receptionist and watched the growth of Love in Action with the addition of Hope House and Harbor Hall. She loves working with people, getting to know them, and greeting them, and did so at our Love in Action Upscale Resale stores and eventually at our Ferry street location where she fields incoming calls from people with all different types of inquiries.
“I love volunteering with Love in Action because it is a faith-filled community. We’re all part of different denominations and backgrounds and are able to connect and talk to each other about our faith respectfully. I also love that we will provide support to anyone, everyone is welcome here!“
We all struggle in life sometimes, and the one thing that can make a positive difference during those hard times is the people in our lives who choose to walk alongside us, people like Mary Turner.
