Making a Difference

Love in Action is known for creating a hand up, a path forward for those in need, in a word—empowerment. But empowerment only works when we truly care. During the Christmas season, we lost one of our most dedicated partners, 
Dorothy Raha. Dorothy served in many roles but especially as the care coordinator for St Mary’s Parish in Spring Lake, dating back to the 1960’s. Her decision to join the LIA pantry system and partner with us created a unity between churches that is
hard to find in many places. It continues to this day.

A client once mentioned privately that he wanted to go to St Mary’s pantry because of a person there who he felt truly cared for him. It did not take more than a few questions to realize he meant Dorothy and the personal touch she offered those she served. I suspect each of our ten pantries have people who feel cared for there and, in a world where they often feel isolated, want to come back for the connection as well as the needed food. 

This past year Love in Action provided hope to over 13,210 people—more than in any other year in our history. Food, housing and other area costs went up significantly in 2023. You have helped Love in Action make a difference in a truly difficult time. Your gifts provide food, shelter, healthcare, and much more in the way of material resources. But it also provides compassionate connections through churches and volunteers that care, that relate, that go out of their way to make a difference and share the love of Jesus personally and practically. Thank you for giving and providing the gift of empowerment throughout our community!
