Hope Restored

Hope Restored

Wendy McGregor, Love in Action’s Director of Housing, recalls reading a children’s book called “Heartprints” at Hope House, our sheltered housing for women and children. The story expresses that when we are kind and show love to one another, we leave an impression that is passed on. Wendy passes along what God taught her in the midst of her own pain, that he works through the lives and stories of each of us to bring hope, transformation, and healing.

We see this reality in Hope House and in Harbor Hall, our sheltered housing for men. As kindness and love are passed along in community with others, healing begins, hope is restored, laughter ensues and often God meets us in surprising ways. The laughter comes, not apart from the pain they are going through, but in the midst of it. We see the light overcoming the darkness.

We all have life experiences that may leave us with scars and grief, and sometimes the inability to function. Life has a way of moving forward without space to heal. By passing along kindness and love to one another, our housing communities provide the space for guests to heal and discover they are not alone. Our guests hunger for that; we all do. Sharing our stories, pain, and joy brings us back to life — guests, volunteers, and staff alike.
