One of our favorite moments at Love in Action is when we hear from those we have served in the past. Each day, LIA provides food, advice, support, housing, healthcare, and dozens of other services. But what we want to see is each person move forward in freedom. It takes time but when someone walks their own path to freedom we celebrate!
Recently, I received a message from one of our Thrive graduates. Thrive is LIA’s education and coaching program and is part of the new Community Co-op. This person, whom I’ll call Tom, has been able to leave behind an addiction, recover his driver’s license, get a new job and move towards financial independence. He wanted us to know that he has now been able to enroll in a local college.
What began as helpful food items when he was facing food
insecurity turned into other resources and eventually a
vehicle through the LIA car ministry. A local church opened
their hearts to Tom and surrounded him with the love of
God in practical ways and encouraged him at every step.
Stories like this remind us that what we truly work toward in
each situation is empowerment. It is a privilege to walk with a person from needing food to providing for themselves,
from living in isolation to volunteering with friends, from addiction and uncertainty to regaining the privileges that
substance abuse has stolen. We get to watch God at work…
an amazing privilege!
