Co-op Soft Open

On October 16, we quietly opened our Community Co-op to its first members with a soft opening — a test run. As the aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air and the excitement of what was years in the making mounted, people began to pour in, first volunteers and then the first few Co-op members!

Members began to shop the market stocked with fresh produce, freshly baked bread, and whole foods without breaking their budget. Friendly chatter filled the Gathering Place with introductions and equal excitement from members, volunteers, and staff. For a moment, each person slowed down and took time for one another before continuing about their day. 

Community can form and thrive when there are occasions to connect in a safe space. Connectedness to others opens doors to opportunity and provides emotional support during hard times, someone to cheer with, pray with, and laugh with. As we reflect on these first days of the opening of our Community Co-op, we continue to pray that this space will offer more than material provision. We pray it will become a space where members, volunteers, and staff form connections, grow in community, and are stronger, happier and better because of it.

The Love in Action Community Co-op is a membership-based Community Center that offers access to resources and, educational opportunities, together with a food market that provides consumer choice and healthy food options.
