An On-Ramp to Care

An On-Ramp to Care

Josh Bytwerk, Executive Director

Food is a critical need in our community. In fact, requests for food went up by 16% in the last year. The end of the year is a crucial time to make a difference through generosity, and food is one of the largest ways that LIA makes a difference. Last year 5,800 individuals throughout the Tri-Cities received food through an LIA pantry with most only needing food occasionally. Mobile food distributions every other Friday received 10,867 more visits.

But, food is more than just a resource; it’s an on-ramp to care and connection. Our goal is to provide freedom to each person, seeing empowerment and steps forward that truly make a difference. Food is the first step. What follows may include dozens of resources, coaching, education, and opportunities to serve. And honestly, we find that when someone begins to serve it is often the most powerful step in our process at Love in Action. It is in serving others that we step away from fear and toward the faith and generosity that drives LIA.

The LIA process includes an initial meeting with an advisor, where we learn what challenges need to be met and the best path forward. Usually there is a felt need, a significant challenge that has caused a person to come to LIA. Food is the most common of these, but this interaction often leads to deeper needs being met and information shared. Each person is invited to join LIA’s Thrive program, which includes continuing connection that often leads to volunteerism at the Community Co-op.

Your gift at this time of year is an act of compassion. But it’s also truly the launch-point for someone’s freedom and development as well. Please read this newsletter to hear stories of lives truly changed.
