Finding Freedom and Friends: How Judy’s Journey Inspired the LIA Community

Judy recently shared her powerful journey in a film shown at a Love in Action (LIA) event, demonstrating the profound impact of community support.

Recommended to LIA by a social worker, Judy first came to us during the pandemic. Isolation and a sudden loss of shared income when her roommate moved out put her at risk of losing her home. She initially sought help for food and a mortgage payment, but what she found was so much more: financial freedom and a network of encouraging new friends.

Through LIA’s Financial Fitness program, Judy was matched with a dedicated coach. She diligently worked to manage her bills and, with determination, achieved a significant milestone: financial freedom. Her joy was infectious! She immediately walked into the Community Co-op to share the great news with her new friends. She also stopped by the Community Hub at Ferry Street to thank the people who first helped her start her journey. Her gratitude and success have become a source of encouragement for others on their path to stability.

Judy’s success story continues. She recently found a job and is now giving back by volunteering to serve others at the LIA Community Co-op.
