Wrap-around Services – Appliances

Success can be measured in lots of ways. Thank-you’s may be some of our favorites. Dave Lankhorst has volunteered at his church, delivering appliances to Love in Action clients for over two decades. When the First Christian Reformed truck pulls away from a home where a refrigerator, or dryer, or washer or some other donated appliance has been received, the thank-you’s often come with hugs, tears, and expressions of deep thanks. 

Each year dozens of local households benefit from First Christian Reformed and its partnership with Love in Action. Local donors make this possible by calling the church and donating their appliances. Weekly, a truck runs between donors and families in need of these appliances, transporting the donated items to where they are most needed. They truly make an enormous difference! 

Dave shares that his church’s ministry is much more than just a delivery service for needed items; it’s a ministry of connections. Volunteers have also raked lawns, cleaned out garages and performed other acts of kindness because the appliance connection helps the church become aware of other needs. This ministry is truly one of thankful hearts… of joy, both in the giving and the receiving. People know they are cared for even though it’s often just for a moment. When a person cannot cook, store food or clean their own clothing, in so many households it truly can be a crisis.
