Lake Trust Grant

We are pleased to announce Love in Action has received a $6,000 grant through the Home Loan Giveback Fund of Lake Trust Credit Union. These funds will provide support for LIA’s sheltered housing programs. A few of the ways this funding will positively impact the community:

• Each year, Love in Action provides over 10,000 nights of shelter to those who would otherwise be homeless. Last year, the number was 11,244.
• In addition to its other meal provision programs, LIA Housing provided 33,732 meals last year.
• Each resident receives personalized case management and support services. But more importantly, the goal of our programs is to create caring communities in which people can succeed.
• LIA enjoys a great partnership with local employers ensuring that our residents receive jobs very quickly upon searching.
• After graduation, LIA continues to offer support through educational offerings, community groups, and individual connections with staff and volunteers. We believe those who come to our program are part of us for life, regardless of the successes or the challenges that follow.
• It costs approximately $50 per night to offer residents housing, food, and support services. You have made it possible for our neighbors-in-need to experience 120 nights of safety and shelter.
• Providence Place offers some of the only affordable housing in our area with each resident paying approximately 30% of their income. To apply residents must have incomes below 50% of the local median income.
• Additionally, LIA has created a homeless prevention program (HMC) that helps local households with utility, rental, and mortgage assistance. Each month this program serves 20-30 additional households. Last year this program helped 95 local families or individuals to remain in their homes and provided case management to dozens of others who also avoided homelessness.

Today LIA has housing graduates that serve as volunteers, staff, and one as an LIA board member. These people continue to help others in some capacity and inform our practices on what works and how best to care for people experiencing homelessness in our area. Your funding will help us to offer services just as numbers of homelessness are increasing in our area. Requests for help have been much higher in the past few months due to changes in Federal programs and inflation.
