Making a Difference: Volunteering at Love in Action

This autumn, it seems easy to feel overwhelmed by the increasing sadness, challenges, and anger that seem to permeate our world. It can be tempting to disengage and retreat from the difficulties. However, at Love in Action, we believe that checking in is a more meaningful approach than checking out.

Our area’s lowest income households are struggling with food, housing and fuel costs. Volunteering is a powerful way to be a part of the solution. David Augsburger wisely wrote, “Being heard is so close to being loved that for the average person, they are almost indistinguishable.” Giving our time is a way to care in a meaningful way and simultaneously counteract the difficulties we face. 

When we choose to listen to someone in need, care in a practical way through personal effort, or give generously, we are echoing the heart of Jesus. Your compassion and support can have a profound impact on the lives of others. Volunteers at LIA sort donations, teach classes, process food, listen to clients, answer phones, mentor students, manage stores, and perform dozens of other crucial tasks. Serving others has the power to change us for the better and truly makes a difference.
