More Than A Shelter

More Than A Shelter

Love in Action’s Sheltered Housing Program offers Hope and Healing

Love in Action’s Sheltered Housing Program offers more than just shelter and food for homeless men, women, and children. These are crucial needs, but the longing goes deeper. Many of our guests have endured turbulent storms and seek respite
from chaos. LIA’s sheltered housing provides a haven where individuals can rebuild their lives.

We strive to create a sanctuary where healing happens. Each guest’s journey is unique. We offer them the opportunity to rebuild broken relationships—with others, with themselves, and with God. One recent graduate of Harbor Hall, the men’s shelter, was heard to say, “This place saved my life!”

At Hope House, the women and children’s shelter, we recently witnessed a broken relationship grow into a love story. Joyce and Robert had become homeless together as a couple. The strain of their situation led to an argument and a break-up. Joyce had reached the end of her ability to go it alone. Today she remembers this time as truly a time when she despaired of hope. Her prayers became desperate. Her son reached out and found her and took her out of the woods she had been living in. The next day she was introduced to a rehab program that she entered and completed.

As is often the case, even after her stay in rehab, she had difficulty finding housing and needed life skills and community. Joyce came to Hope House and completed the Sheltered Housing Program. Robert amazingly found his way to the same rehab program Joyce had first attended. He completed it and joined their staff as a team member during the same time Joyce became a shining leader at Hope House. After she graduated, she was welcomed as a Resident Assistant of the program. She excels in welcoming new guests. Eventually, Joyce and Robert found each other again. Through their newfound
faith, their broken relationship was not only healed but blessed. They look forward to a beautiful marriage.
