Grace Gardens

The mission of Grace Gardens is to show the love of Christ by building relationships, teaching good stewardship of God’s creation, and growing and distributing healthy food for those in need within our community.

According to the Ottawa County Food Policy Council, access to affordable, fresh, and healthy produce is one of the top challenges for people in need. Love in Action’s goal is to have a productive garden that is also educational and inspirational.

Grace Gardens is located on the grounds of the Church of the Nazarene, 1620 S Beechtree in Grand Haven. The Church has graciously allowed the garden to be placed in the area where they once had their baseball field.

Who Will Work the Garden?

Grace Gardens will be maintained by volunteers from the community who may come individually or in groups. This is a great opportunity for families, business groups and small groups from churches. All who enjoy being outdoors, working in the dirt, and watching things grow are welcome. Even if they have little or no gardening experience, a volunteer can be placed alongside an experienced gardener who will educate them in the process.

Current Garden Needs

  • Volunteers for Summer 2021
  • Seeds
  • Sturdy stakes
  • Wire cutters
  • Screw driver

What Will the Garden Produce?

Grace Gardens will produce vegetables, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, kale, spinach, peppers, carrots, radishes, beans, and onions as well as herbs and watermelon. The hope and prayer is to produce 2,000 pounds of healthy produce for Love in Action’s 10 food pantries.

How is the Garden Maintained and Funded?

Grace Gardens will rely on the community for volunteers to work the garden and cash or in-kind donations to provide the seeds, plants, and tools necessary to make the garden grow. Many plants have been started through the Garden Club of Lakeshore Middle School and are also being donated by local contributors, though much is still needed.

Come meet new friends from the community while helping provide fresh, healthy food for those in need in our community. All ages and abilities are welcome.
